Great-great-grandmother Darr’s Jam Cake
Ingredients
1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon cinnamon
3 cups flour
1 cup jam of your choice
Cream butter and sugar together. Beat in eggs, 1 at a time, then beat in buttermilk. Sift together baking soda, cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, and flour and slowly add to liquid mixture, beating well. Add jam and mix well.
Bake in large greased and floured pan at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Use toothpick to test for doneness. Allow to cool before turning out from pan.
